Individual services at GroomRoom Berlin: hands clipping the nails of a Pomeranian paw
Hand-stripping at GroomRoom Berlin: hand-stripped Miniature Schnauzer
Package 4 · The ultimate discipline

Hand-stripping: breed-standard for Terriers and Schnauzers

According to breed standards, some dog breeds shouldn't be clipped but hand-stripped, especially Wirehaired Terriers, Schnauzers, Fox Terriers, Wirehaired Dachshunds and Wirehaired Pointers. Hand-stripping means: the mature, dead topcoat is carefully plucked out using fingers or a stripping stone. This preserves the typical coat texture, rich colour and water-repellent character. These qualities are lost when clipping.

Price
from 70 €
Duration
90 to 150 min.
Who it's for
Wire-haired breeds

What's included:

  • Carding (removing undercoat)
  • Hand-stripping body & flanks
  • Breed-specific silhouette
  • Shaping beard & eyebrows
  • Finishing legs with scissors
  • Nail, paw and sanitary trim

Why not clip? Clipping cuts off the topcoat. The harsh texture is lost, the undercoat grows back thicker, the colour fades, and the coat becomes softer and more prone to dirt. Hand-stripping removes dead hair from the root, and new topcoat grows back in its original quality.

Breeds that are hand-stripped: Jack Russell, Parson Russell, Fox Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Norwich Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer, Standard Schnauzer, Giant Schnauzer, Wirehaired Dachshund, Wirehaired Pointer, German Wirehaired Pointer, Wirehaired Weimaraner, Border Terrier and more. Recommended frequency: every 8 to 12 weeks depending on the breed. Find out more on the hand-stripping page.

Package 5 · Yes, cats too

Full cat grooming: calm and with breaks

Cats aren't small dogs. They need more peace, fewer unfamiliar scents and no loud background noise. Above all, they need someone who reads their body language and knows when they've had enough. Our team works with cats calmly, taking breaks and giving them space to retreat. No force, no rush.

Price
from 99 €
Duration
60 to 90 min.
Who it's for
Cats of all breeds

What's included:

  • Washing with cat shampoo
  • Gentle blow-drying (quiet machine)
  • De-matting & brushing
  • Clipping if required (lion cut, sanitary cut)
  • Nail clipping
  • Eye & paw cleaning
  • Sanitary trim
  • Quiet rest area in between

Especially useful for: Persians, Maine Coons, Siberians, Ragdolls and other long-haired cats with a dense undercoat. For severe matting, we recommend a full lion cut. It's gentler than lengthy de-matting, and the coat will grow back. Find out more on the full cat grooming page.

Please note: Some cats just aren't happy in the salon. If we notice during the first appointment that it's getting too much for your pet, we'll stop, advise you on home grooming and only charge for the actual work done. Animal welfare always comes first.

Which breed, what price?

From Chihuahua to St. Bernard: we groom them all.

The three size categories that determine our pricing: Within each category, the final price varies depending on coat type, condition and behaviour.

Smallup to 10 kg

Small dog breeds

Chihuahua, Maltese, Pekingese, Mini Yorkshire Terrier, Shih Tzu, Yorkshire Terrier, Papillon, Pomeranian. Dogs up to about 10 kg take less time and are usually at the lower end of the price scale.

Exception: Pomeranians might be small, but their thick double coat takes a lot more work. That's why there's a 20 € surcharge.

Medium10 to 25 kg

Medium breeds

Tibetan Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, Spitz, Münsterländer, Fox Terrier, French Bulldog, Beagle, Bichon Frisé, Border Collie, Welsh Corgi, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lhasa Apso, Pug, Dachshund, Shiba Inu, Toy Poodle, Miniature Poodle, Bolonka Zwetna, West Highland White Terrier and many more.

Large25+ kg

Large breeds

Afghan Hound, Akita, Ovtcharka, Bullmastiff, Bernese Mountain Dog, Bouvier des Flandres, Golden Retriever, Irish Red Setter, Cane Corso, Dogue de Bordeaux, Labrador, Malamute, German Shepherd, Newfoundland, St. Bernard, Siberian Husky, Chow Chow and others.

Note: Very large or anxious dogs need more time and sometimes a second person. We factor this into the quote.

Transparency Zone

When is there an extra charge?

So you don't get any surprises when it's time to pay: here are the situations where we charge more than the starting price. We discuss any extra costs before we start grooming.

Deviation from standard breed weight

Your dog is significantly larger or more overweight than the average for their breed. More coat, more surface area, more time = higher price.

Excessive coat

After spaying or neutering, the hair cycle often changes, and many dogs grow a much thicker undercoat. The same goes for a long break between grooming sessions.

Behaviour

Very anxious, restless or aggressive dogs need a lot more breaks, much more patience and sometimes a second person for the grooming.

Severe matting

Extensive knots and matting mean extra work. Depending on the condition, we recommend de-matting (time-consuming, extra charge) or a full clip-down (often cheaper and gentler).

Skin conditions

Eczema, hot spots or scabs require particularly gentle, slow work. Let us know in advance so we can schedule enough time and choose the right shampoo.

Extended grooming time

All the above factors combined: if the grooming takes significantly longer than for a standard dog of the same breed, we will fairly charge for the extra minutes.

Our promise: We discuss any price adjustments with you in person before the groom, so there are never any surprises on the bill. If you don't agree with the adjusted price, we'll cancel the appointment and won't charge you a thing.

FAQ

Common questions about prices and how it works

We answer our most frequently asked questions right here.

Why are these only starting prices?+

Because every dog is different. A regularly groomed Spitz takes less time than a matted Pomeranian after six months without a trim. The 'from' price is the starting point. We set the final price after a personal assessment and let you know before the scissors come out.

How much is the surcharge for severe matting?+

Minor knots are included in the price. Heavy, widespread matting means extra work and poses a risk to the skin. For this, we charge from 15 € for every 15 minutes of de-matting started. For extremely matted dogs, we usually recommend a full clip-down, as it's kinder to the dog and cheaper than hours of de-matting.

Can I combine several individual services?+

Yes, absolutely. We offer a 4-in-1 combo package for nails, paws, eyes and the hygiene area from 45 €. Just let us know what you need when booking, so we can schedule enough time.

What happens if my dog gets nervous?+

We work calmly and take breaks. Our team introduces nervous dogs to grooming slowly. For very anxious pets, we can schedule extra time and a second person by arrangement. If a dog really can't cope in the salon, we stop the session and only charge for the services provided.

How do I pay? Do you take cards?+

Cash, debit card, credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payment is due directly after the groom when you pick up your dog. We don't offer invoicing for later payment or instalment plans.
