What is a dog spa at a dog groomer?
At a dog groomer, a dog spa is an appointment focused on bathing, drying, and caring for the coat, paws, and nails. Search terms like dog spa, pet spa, dog grooming spa, or doggy spa usually refer to the same grooming appointment. However, the word 'spa' alone doesn't tell you exactly which steps, products, and time a salon actually schedules. That's why you should ask about the individual steps, the duration, and the final binding price before booking. With us, you'll find out the final price before the appointment, after we've personally assessed your dog and their coat. You can find starting prices and possible surcharges in our price list.

What does a spa appointment with us include?
A spa appointment with us includes a bath, blow-drying, combing, and care for the nails, eyes, paws, and sanitary area. These steps are included in the Mini Groom:

- Arrival: Your dog gets to explore the salon first; we let anxious dogs settle in without any pressure.
- Bath: We bathe them in the Hydra tub and choose LT and Ecopets products based on their coat type and skin condition.
- Blow-drying and combing: We gently dry the coat and comb it through; removing minor tangles is included in the price.
- Paws and nails: We trim the nails, care for the paws, and gently clean the eyes and sanitary area.
- Breaks: If your dog needs a rest in between, we take a break and then continue at their pace.
The Mini Groom also includes light thinning, which is a gentle blending of the coat. The Full Groom adds brushing, ear care, and a breed-standard haircut or clipping. We only offer clipping for breeds whose coats allow it, such as Poodles, Doodles, Bichons, Malteses, or Yorkshires.
Which shampoo is right for a dog's skin?
A shampoo made specifically for dogs is best for their skin, as human shampoo doesn't have the right pH balance, according to the AKC. We use pH-neutral natural products from LT and Ecopets, choosing them based on coat type and skin condition. The AKC notes that most experts advise bathing dogs as infrequently as possible. This preserves their natural skin oils and prevents the skin from drying out.
For the bath itself, the AKC outlines a few basic rules that also apply to a spa appointment. Before washing, the coat is thoroughly brushed to remove loose hair, dirt and other debris. The water should be warm, but not hot. The shampoo is massaged right down to the skin and then rinsed out completely. According to the AKC, this rinsing takes patience, as no shampoo residue should be left in the coat. We explain how often a bath is right for your dog in our guide to bathing and finding the right routine.
How is loose undercoat removed during a spa appointment?
Loose undercoat is lifted from the coat during blow-drying and combing after the bath. According to the AKC, the undercoat is the soft, dense layer of shorter hairs beneath the coarse outer guard hairs. It sheds more frequently than the topcoat, especially during seasonal coat changes. After bathing and brushing, dog groomers often use a powerful dog dryer and comb out the coat section by section, as noted by the AKC. For drying, the AKC recommends avoiding the hottest setting and keeping a safe distance from the skin.

We don't clip breeds with an undercoat like the Spitz, Pomeranian, Husky or Golden Retriever; instead, we demat them by hand. The AKC also notes that experts generally advise against clipping dogs with a double coat, meaning dogs with both a topcoat and an undercoat. You can read how to manage shedding at home in our article Dog shedding: how to properly remove the undercoat.
Ozone, Thalasso, conditioning mask: what do these terms mean?
Terms like ozone, Thalasso or conditioning mask sound like wellness treatments and usually promise more than just a clean, well-groomed coat. The term alone doesn't reveal exactly what is in the water or the mask, nor what it is supposed to achieve. We don't offer ozone therapy and describe our grooming without making any medical claims. The British Veterinary Association (BVA) does not support any treatment that promises healing effects without proven efficacy. According to the BVA, complementary therapies should neither replace nor delay standard veterinary treatment.
A rich conditioner, on the other hand, has a clear purpose. According to the AKC, when combined with powerful blow-drying, it helps to loosen compacted undercoat and knots in heavily tangled double coats. We never pull on mats; we work carefully, step by step. For heavily matted coats, we charge 15 € per started 15 minutes.
See a vet first for skin and coat problems
Pain, bleeding, broken skin, noticeable hair loss or severe itching should be seen by a vet first. According to the PDSA, most dogs shed in cycles throughout the year, but their coat shouldn't become bald or patchy. The PDSA advises contacting your vet if your dog is losing fur. The best treatment depends on the cause, according to the PDSA, so a vet should take a look before you try any home remedies. A grooming bath in the salon is no substitute for an examination. In the salon, we care for the coat and skin with bathing, drying and brushing; diagnosis and treatment are left to the vet.
If your dog has bald patches, wounds or is constantly scratching, have them examined by a vet first. You can easily schedule your grooming appointment with us afterwards.
Allow plenty of time and calm for the appointment
Allow 60 to 180 minutes for a spa appointment, depending on size and coat. According to our booking catalogue, a Full Groom takes varying amounts of time depending on the dog's weight:

| Dog's weight | Duration of the Full Groom |
|---|---|
| up to 2 kg | 60 minutes |
| up to 15 kg | 120 minutes |
| up to 18 kg | 150 minutes |
| over 18 kg | 180 minutes |
A Full Groom starts at 79 €, and a Mini Groom at 59 €. Ear cleaning from 18 € or nail clipping from 15 € are also available as individual services without a bath.
We don't overbook and we take breaks as soon as your dog needs them. You're welcome to watch your dog from outside through our shop window. Large dogs don't have to be lifted, because we lower the height-adjustable grooming table and then raise it to working height. For very anxious dogs, we can schedule extra time and a second person by arrangement.
If you're looking for a cat spa, you'll find our cat grooming starting at 99 €. Every cat gets their own quiet time slot with no dogs in the salon. You can find us in Charlottenburg, Giesebrechtstraße 2, 10629 Berlin. Appointments are available Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 18, and you can book around the clock: Book an appointment online.
We visited GroomRoom for the first time and are absolutely thrilled. We've finally found our dog groomer in Kristina. We will definitely be coming back. Unfortunately, I can only give five stars, even though you deserve at least ten.
