How much does trimming a Miniature Schnauzer cost in Berlin?

Hand-stripping with us costs €70 per hour. On weekdays, you can drop by without an appointment for a free consultation, and we'll take a look at your dog's coat together. How often does a Miniature Schnauzer need trimming?

The American Kennel Club notes that the grooming rhythm depends on several factors, including the breed and the pace of hair growth. A weekly round of brushing and combing is described by the American Kennel Club as a complement that doesn't replace the trimming appointment. Hand-stripping or clipping: what's common?

Both approaches exist, and the choice depends on the dog and the owner's goal. According to the American Kennel Club, most Miniature Schnauzer owners have the coat clipped to an even length, usually around 2.5 to 5 centimetres. The facial hair is kept longer, as the beard and pronounced eyebrows are part of the breed's look. The wire coat consists of topcoat and undercoat

The Miniature Schnauzer's coat has two layers. On the outside is the topcoat, the coarse, bristly hair that, according to the American Kennel Club, protects against weather, burrs and dense undergrowth. Underneath lies the undercoat, which the American Kennel Club describes as soft and downy. According to the American Kennel Club's breed profile, the Miniature Schnauzer doesn't shed. The American Kennel Club describes the technique like this: tighten the skin, take a few hairs between thumb and forefinger and pull in the direction of growth. It should be a steady rhythm without force, and it's easier before a bath. Technically, it targets hairs in the telogen phase, meaning resting hairs that have already loosened from the root. What happens during a hand-stripping appointment with us?

We work calmly and take breaks whenever your dog needs them. Here's how it goes:

1. Arrival and getting acquainted: your dog has a sniff around and checks out the room.
2. Taking our time: we work without pressure, we take fear seriously and let the dog settle in first.
3. Going through the coat: light knots are gently loosened, we never pull on matted fur.
4. Plucking the topcoat: section by section in the direction of growth, as the American Kennel Club puts it, in a steady rhythm without force.
5. Sensitive areas: according to the American Kennel Club, groomers use clippers or thinning shears around the intimate area, face and throat so the dog stays relaxed.
6. Taking breaks: the animal always comes first with us, not the clock.
7. Choosing products: pH-neutral natural products depending on coat type and skin condition.

Care at home between appointments

For the time between hand-stripping appointments, the American Kennel Club recommends a weekly routine following the double-brush, double-comb method:

1. Brush through with a pin brush, this stimulates the skin and removes loose hairs.
2. Comb out knots with a medium-density comb.
3. Work through to the skin with a fine comb and smooth out the coat.
4. Finish off with a slicker brush.
