In cases of severe anxiety, we split the appointment into short stages that can be spread over several visits. The journey from the first sniff to the finished cut usually looks like this with us:
- During the first contact, your dog can sniff around the salon without anyone reaching for them.
- After that, we start with a short individual service like nail clipping or paws, which only takes a few minutes.
- Bathing only follows once your dog knows the table and our hands and stays calm.
- When drying, we work with a towel and a quiet hairdryer on a low setting, often keeping it away from their head.
- If necessary, we schedule the cut for a second appointment so the first session stays short.
Between steps, we take breaks where your dog can get off the table and relax. Bathing takes place in our Hydra tub using pH-neutral natural products from LT and Ecopets, calmly and without rushing. When drying, we use a towel first, and the hairdryer only runs as quietly as necessary afterwards. Before the appointment, we talk honestly with you about what we think is realistic and what isn't. If your dog stops cooperating despite all the calmness, we stop and don't force them any further. You then only pay for the services we actually provided, and we discuss the next step.

Leave a hairdryer running on a low setting in the next room at home while your dog is eating in a relaxed way. Over time, the noise gets closer, and the dog learns that nothing bad happens. Occasionally place your dog briefly on a non-slip raised surface and reward them there. Brushing in short sessions is also part of this, so they get used to being touched with tools.
On the day of the appointment, your dog should be well-exercised but not arrive completely exhausted. A long walk in the morning takes away the initial restlessness, whereas a race in the park right beforehand will make them more fidgety. After two or three calm short appointments, Mini Grooming with a wash and dry is usually the next step. Most dogs become calmer on the table as soon as their human has left the room. This sounds harsh to many owners at first, but there is a simple reason for it. As long as you are standing next to them, your dog looks to you for help and tries to get to you. Any worried tone in your voice confirms to them that the situation is indeed threatening. Without you, they focus on the groomer, who can calmly show them that nothing bad is happening.

During the first stages, we will agree with you whether you stay briefly in the salon or wait outside. For very anxious or defensive dogs, we apply a surcharge by arrangement, as we need to schedule more time and a second person. We'll give you the exact price before the appointment after a personal assessment, so there are no surprises at the till. A very anxious Golden Retriever, for example, takes us around three hours and costs 209 to 240 €. In comparison, a regularly groomed Shih Tzu without anxiety is around 105 to 135 € for 90 minutes.

However, for cancellations less than 24 hours before the appointment, we charge 70 percent of the price via invoice.
