The starting price includes bathing, blow-drying, brushing, a breed-standard cut or clip, as well as nails, eyes, paws, ears and the hygiene area. We'll give you the final, binding price before the appointment, once we've seen your dog. Large dogs vary greatly in the amount of work required. A short-haired Labrador takes less time on the table than a Bernese Mountain Dog shedding its coat. We charge extra for dematting, at 15 € per 15 minutes started. How does a large dog get onto the grooming table?
They step on by themselves. Our grooming tables are height-adjustable, the top lowers to just above the floor. Your dog walks onto it, we secure them and then raise the table to working height. This saves your dog from jumping and us from lifting. For older dogs with stiff joints, this is much calmer than being lifted by two people. We bathe them in a Hydra tub using pH-neutral natural products. We cut with Aesculap tools, whose clipper blades cleanly grip even thick coats.
How long does an appointment with a large dog take?
Allow 120 to 180 minutes. For a very anxious large dog, we schedule around 3 hours, with breaks between the steps. We don't overbook, so your dog won't be waiting in a crowded room.
- Greeting and coat check on the floor, about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Dry brushing, loosening knots and loose undercoat beforehand.
- Bath in the Hydra tub, shampooing twice for thick coats.
- Blow-drying with a high-velocity dryer, the longest step for heavy undercoats.
- Line combing, meaning combing through section by section from bottom to top.
- Scissor cut, clipping or tidying contours on the paws, ears and tail.
- Nails, eyes, ears and sanitary area.
- Final check and handover with grooming tips for home.
How often does a large dog need a salon appointment?
Short-haired large dogs come in every 8 to 12 weeks, large breeds with continuously growing coats every 6 to 8 weeks. Between appointments, combing two to three times a week with a rake and steel comb helps remove loose undercoat and prevents matting.

A double coat needs a comb and dryer instead of clippers
A double coat consists of a coarse topcoat and a soft, dense undercoat underneath. The topcoat keeps dirt and moisture out, while the undercoat insulates against cold and heat. Experts from the American Kennel Club therefore advise against routinely clipping double-coated dogs, as both layers grow back at different rates. For Golden Retrievers, Samoyeds or Mountain Dogs, we use a bath, high-velocity dryer and line combing. If there is extensive, tight matting, a short clip is sometimes the gentler solution, which we decide together before the appointment. Never cut out matted knots at home with scissors, as the skin is often right underneath. If there are bleeding spots, open skin, severe itching or lameness, your dog needs to see a vet first.
Two groomers for anxious or defensive dogs
For very anxious or defensive dogs, we can work in pairs by arrangement. One person maintains contact and secures the dog, while the second dries, combs or clips nails. This takes more time, so we agree on the surcharge beforehand on the phone or in the salon. Strong dogs that are afraid of the dryer get short sessions with breaks in between. Plan your journey and appointment in advance
If you're travelling by bus or train, you'll need a reduced-fare ticket for a large dog. With a day or season ticket, one dog travels for free. Dogs must be on a lead and wear a muzzle, as required by the transport network. So, practice with the muzzle calmly at home before your first appointment. You can reach us via U7 Adenauerplatz (4 minutes on foot), U1 and U9 Kurfürstendamm (10 minutes). If you're driving, you'll find parking spaces in Giesebrechtstraße and Brandenburgische Straße. We are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm, and closed on Monday and Sunday. A quick consultation in the salon is possible on weekdays without an appointment and costs nothing. Should I have my Golden Retriever shaved in the summer?
Usually not. The topcoat and undercoat grow back at different rates, which is why experts advise against routinely shaving double-coated dogs. A bath, blow-dry and thorough deshedding of the loose undercoat makes much more sense. If there is extensive, tight matting, a short clip might be the safer option. We'll make this decision together with you before the appointment.
What happens if my large dog struggles?
Then, by arrangement, two groomers will work together: one secures the dog and maintains contact, while the second bathes, blow-dries or clips the nails. We break the work down into short sessions with breaks. The extra effort is discussed beforehand so you know the price.
