How do you read dog grooming salon reviews the right way?

Read reviews with three things in mind: number, timeframe and level of detail. A star rating alone tells you very little about the actual grooming work. Reviews that mention breed, cut, coat condition or the dog's behaviour give you something you can actually use. Check the critical reviews too, and see whether the salon responds to them in a fair, factual way.

Look specifically for reviews that match your situation. Praise for a teddy cut won't help much if your dog has a thick undercoat, like a Spitz, Pomeranian, Husky or Golden Retriever. What does a good dog grooming salon in Berlin cost?

With us, the Complete Groom starts at 79 € and the Mini Groom starts at 59 €. For large dogs, the Complete Groom starts at 209 €, and hand-stripping starts at 70 € per hour. These are starting prices, as the coat's condition determines the working time. Light tangles are included in the price, but for heavily matted coats, de-matting costs extra, from 15 € per 15 minutes (or part thereof). For Pomeranians, the Mini Groom comes with a surcharge of 20 € for the Mini Groom (already included in the Spitz/Pom Complete package), which is already included in the Spitz and Pom Complete package. For very anxious or defensive dogs, a surcharge may apply by arrangement, as the appointment needs more time and a second person.

Which answers about products and tools are actually useful?

A useful answer is one that names a specific product or tool. The American Kennel Club describes the salon standard as clean, disinfected brushes and clipper blades along with mild shampoos made specifically for dogs. The PDSA points out that shampoos made for people can cause skin irritation in dogs.

How long does an appointment take, and how many dogs are there at the same time?

Duration depends on size, coat type and coat condition, so it's worth asking about during every first conversation. An answer given in minutes can be checked, an answer like "quickly" can't. Also ask how the dog spends any waiting time. With us, it stays calm in the salon because we don't overbook, and we build in breaks during grooming.

Start with a small trial appointment

The cheapest way to try out a salon is a short appointment for a single service. Nail trimming starts at 15 €, ears from 18 €, eyes from 15 €. The 4-in-1 combo package starts at 45 €. This way you get to see the space, the handling and your dog's reaction without committing straight away to a Full Groom.

The American Kennel Club recommends practising nail care early and in small steps, for example one or two nails at a time. A short single-service appointment fits well with this approach. What if your dog is scared of the salon?
